Caleb grew up in East Tennessee, in the little town of Maryville. He was involved in athletics all of his life. In high school, the sport of wrestling became his clear passion, and one he pursued with vigor and discipline. He had the opportunity to wrestle at a small college in Kentucky, University of the Cumberlands. During his first season, he suffered a knee injury, resulting in his third surgery, so he hung up the wrestling shoes. However, he missed the intensity of wrestling and training, and couldn’t quite find that program that suited his desire. As fate would have it, he stumbled upon CrossFit.com in late 2005. This was a game changer.
After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology, Caleb moved back home to run a sports performance facility. It was there that Caleb, along with a friend, would open CrossFit CHF. CrossFit was no longer his passion, but part of his career. Owning and running an affiliate in the early days of CrossFit was an incredible opportunity to grow as an athlete, and even more so as a coach. It was here that Caleb met his wife, Katie.
In 2011, Caleb stepped away from CrossFit full-time, and stepped into the world of youth ministry with Redeemer Church of Knoxville, in Knoxville. However, coaching was still a passion, so he coached part-time with CrossFit K-Town, as well as compete with team Jacked and Tan. These are great memories and experiences that have shaped who he is as a coach today, but it wasn’t CrossFit that brought him to Nashville. In 2015 Caleb took a youth ministry position at Christ Presbyterian Church. After a wonderful two years, it was clear that he was being led back into CrossFit.
And so, here we are. This is the short story leading to where we are today with the founding of CrossFit East Nashville. Caleb is beyond excited to share his love of CrossFit with East Nashville, and make some great friends and build a strong and lasting community along the way.
